How to change the pitch of a song
To change the pitch of a song without changing its tempo, open Pitch Changer, leave Tempo at 100%, and move Pitch in semitones. That is also how you transpose a song without changing tempo: the key moves, the beat does not, and the exported length stays with the original timing.
If the song also needs a different pace, change Tempo after the key is right. Pitch Changer can move both independently; it does not link them the way tape-style speed does.

Decision
Keep Tempo at 100% unless timing is part of the job
A transpose is a pitch change with timing held still. In this tool that means Pitch or Fine tune moves, and Tempo stays at 100%. Singers lowering a karaoke track, guitarists matching a capo, or anyone aligning a backing track to a new key should start there.
Change Tempo only when the task needs more or less time: slowing a phrase for practice, or tightening a rehearsal copy. If you need a new speed and the original key must stay locked, use Audio Speed Changer instead of this how-to. If you are still choosing which quality should move, compare pitch and tempo first.

Semitones, cents, and examples
Pitch is measured in semitones from -24 to +24. Cents are a finer split of the same scale: 100 cents equal one semitone, and Fine tune here covers -50 to +50. The complete mix moves together. The tool does not isolate vocals, detect the original key, or pick a range for you.

Those starting values are examples, not detected answers. Extreme jumps toward ±12 or ±24 reconstruct more audio and are the first place artifacts show up.
Workflow
Change pitch in five local steps
Step 1
Load one local audio file
Choose an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, or OGG file up to 80 MB. Pitch Changer decodes it in this browser tab. An empty, oversized, unsupported, or undecodable file stops before the workspace opens, and there is no audio upload fallback.
Step 2
Keep Tempo at 100% when you only need a transpose
Leaving Tempo at 100% is how you transpose a song without changing tempo. The exported duration then stays aligned with the original, apart from ordinary audio-frame rounding. Change Tempo later only if the task also needs a new pace.
Step 3
Set semitones, then cents if a full key is too much
Pitch runs from -24 to +24 semitones. One semitone is one half step—the distance between adjacent piano keys—and 12 semitones are one octave. Start with -1 or -2 if the song sits slightly too high, or +1 or +2 if it sits too low. Open Fine tune for -50 to +50 cents when the recording is a little sharp or flat but a full semitone would overshoot.
Step 4
Preview the section that will give the change away
Seek on the waveform, repeat the track, or mark an A–B loop of at least 0.25 seconds. Listen to exposed vocals, consonants, and cymbals. Live preview uses the same Signalsmith Stretch settings as the later WAV, so a bad shift should be audible before export.
Step 5
Export a 16-bit WAV after the preview works
Create WAV stays disabled until pitch, cents, or tempo differs from the original. The download is a new 16-bit PCM WAV; the source file is not overwritten. Changing a setting after rendering removes the old download so it cannot be mistaken for the current preview.
Preview
Check the hard section before you export
A full-track listen can hide a problem that appears on one sustained vowel or cymbal. Place A just before that moment and B at least 0.25 seconds later. Compare nearby pitch values while the loop repeats. If both pitch and tempo moved, return Tempo to 100% to hear the key by itself.
Pitch shifting is reconstruction, not a lossless rewrite. Preview and export share the same Signalsmith configuration and keep about 10% output headroom, but large shifts, dense mixes, and already-compressed sources can still sound distorted. Limits
What this how-to cannot promise, and how to recover
- The picker accepts common extensions up to 80 MB, but decoding still depends on the browser. A valid extension is not a guarantee.
- The complete mixed file moves together. There is no vocal isolation, Auto-Tune-style note correction, or stem split.
- Output is 16-bit WAV only. A smaller MP3 input can become a larger download, and source tags are not copied.
- Closing or reloading the tab clears the working session. Keep the original file; the tool never writes back into it.
If the workspace never opens, the file is empty, larger than 80 MB, unsupported, or undecodable—choose another file. If Create WAV stays disabled, pitch, cents, and tempo are still at the original values. If a ready download vanishes, a setting changed after render; preview again and create a new WAV.

How do I transpose a song without changing tempo?
Load the file in Pitch Changer, leave Tempo at 100%, and move Pitch by semitones. That is the same operation as changing pitch without changing speed. Duration stays with the original timing. Use Audio Speed Changer instead if the key should stay put and only timing should move.
How many semitones should I move?
Use the smallest shift that makes the song singable or playable. One semitone is a half step; two semitones are a whole step. The tool does not detect the original key or your range, so confirm the chorus or highest phrase by ear instead of trusting a guessed key name.
When should I use cents instead of semitones?
There are 100 cents in one semitone. Use semitones for a clear key change. Use Fine tune (-50 to +50 cents) only for a small sharp-or-flat correction, such as lining up an older recording with a tuner or instrument.
Will changing pitch change the file length?
Pitch itself does not change duration. Tempo does. At 80% tempo the export lasts about 1.25 times as long; at 125% it lasts about 80% as long. If length must stay the same, keep Tempo at 100%.
Does this upload my song or export MP3?
No audio bytes are sent to a Pitch Changer upload endpoint. The current export is one 16-bit WAV. The page does not recreate the input codec, keep source tags, or offer MP3, M4A, FLAC, AAC, or OGG export.
Why is Create WAV disabled or why did the download disappear?
Export is disabled until the settings differ from the original. After a WAV is rendered, changing pitch, cents, or tempo clears that download so you cannot save a file that no longer matches the preview. Decode errors, files over 80 MB, and unsupported types fail before the workspace opens; choose another file.
